The Mekong Curatorial Workshop 2007

The work of curators and the curatorial processes is new and unfamiliar for public in the Mekong Region. There are very few educational curators in this region. In order to instigate curatorial practices, The Mekong Art and Culture Project in collaboration with Goethe Institut (Bangkok), National Faculty of Fine Arts (Vientiane), Meta House (Phnom Penh), and New Space Art Gallery (Hue) organizes The Mekong Curatorial Workshop 2007, which will be taking place in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam respectively during March and April 2007.

The aims of the workshop are:

-          to contribute knowledge relating to  curatorial processes to those who work in the area of contemporary art or related fields

-          to provide an opportunity for creative individuals to gain more experiences in the curatorial processes with professional curators

-          to encourage participants to use new knowledge in any curatorial work in the future

-          to seek a potential participant in each workshop venue, who will be appointed as a curator to work with The Mekong Art and Culture Project with connection to Curatorial & Exhibition Project

The Mekong Curatorial Workshop 2007 is a four-day intensive workshop at New Space Art Gallery. The workshop covers the overview of curator’s working processes and previous experiences.  There will also be a floor for discussion and brainstorm among participants as well as for them to present their own projects created during the workshop.

Workshop conductor: Naoko Usuki

Coordinator:  Jakapan Vilasineekul
